The Poetry Pizzeria is an platform for poetry projects on the web. It is a place where student poets, teacher poets and poet poets can converge to publish, perform and celebrate each other’s poetry. It will also be a window into the real life poetic exploits taking place in schools.
The Poetry Pizzeria was an idea simmering around the head of Phil Whitehead for a number of years. It was first brought to the boil around 7 years ago through a series of collaborations with Peter Ford at conferences about creativity, creative writing and the use of ICT.
The basic idea is of a place on the Internet that reflects and encourages a variety of poetry in real world communities but one that also inspires and supports communication and collaboration with others, fostering an authentic sense of purpose and audience. Over time the Poetry Pizzeria could have many different flavours and hopefully participants will add their own toppings!
Feel free to tell us what you think about the site and any ideas that you might have. Perhaps you are a closet teacher poet, the teacher of an excellent poetry student or a professional poet? The next project could be based on your work.

My great love of pizza and poetry has brought me back with a hunger that can only be satiated by some new ideas for slices and an even greater variety of toppings.
So come on we want new shapes, new sizes, new ingredients, new methods, quick bakes, slow cooks, long, lingering mozzarella moments…
